    New Project '98 A604/41TE

Looks to me like any PT Cruiser 2000-2010, and any Avenger from like 2008-2014. Based on your estimates above and what I have been modeling based on my buddys' hourly rate, this prolly will not work. Just when I was learning to work on those A604s...might be time for a new hobbie. BTW, took my...

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

I should clarify that this mechanic is a friend that I've known for 35 years, and has cut me many many breaks plus free advise over the years. I ran into him at a sporting event so it was casual. He did give me his hourly rate. MT

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

Looks like this thing will fly. Hey, any of you pros, could you tell me how many labor hours it would be to R & R an A604 on PT Cruiser or Dodge Avenger? This wouldn't include bench work, just remove and replace. My mechanic says look it up online but I see only Mickey Mouse action there, MT

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

Well finally got this thing screwed together...no lift, not even cement floor. Just dirt, floor jacks, blocks of wood, and cursing. These 604s have an irregular contour and the pan sits at an odd angle...test drive was good, nothing blew up. Has all gears and reverse. No CEL. With wheels off...

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

The comment about the bearing pre-load in ATSG is in regards to the output gear. It's just a small blurb on page 75. I would be doing nothing with the diff. So I guess I just put a feeler gauge in between the gear and the case? Re: input clearance, it's done on the input drum, not the 2/4. I...

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

Thanks, grcauto. I see on page 75 of the ATSG 'The output gear tapered roller bearings must have a preload of .02 to .05 millimeter (.0008 to .002 inch). I have not done this before so this will be new, MT

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

grcauto - it's the rear planet I'm concerned about. Apparently there's a shim underneath the big nut holding it in, and it's selective and very critical. You guys who have done these; please advise what you've done and how it worked out. I'm having 2nd thoughts about building up that core I have...

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

Wow; what actually happened is that the splined section of the rear planet completely sheared off and was flopping around in the front planet. The bearing was two pieces. Anyway, I do not have the capability of doing the rear planet so I'll build the other unit I have. MT

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

Yes, I see several really good package deals on eBay for the geartrain. I am on a budget. Trouble is, I just read the installation procedures for the rear planet in ATRA and I'm not sure I really should mess with that. It said if you get it wrong the thing could blow up on the TEST DRIVE. ATSG...

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

Well I never found my pressure gauge but anyway today I finally got it apart and both planets grenaded. I believe there is a snap ring that holds the front planet and ring gear together, and it looks to me like that snap ring probably failed and took out the rest, MT

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

Thanks for the ATSG info, kev2. I will test pressures tomorrow. I suspect as soon as it tries 1-2 upshift it'll get a neutral condition and throw the CEL on. Yes, the front planet splines strip on these and I believe on the 3-4 upshift the OD hub can't grab the planet so it goes into limp-in at...

I have a gauge and I was thinking it would be a good idea to check... MT

    New Project '98 A604/41TE

Minivan, cleanest by far I've ever seen, no reverse and apparently no 2nd from the previous owner's description. No codes but they cleared them. I'll jack up the front wheels and simulate driving until it faults. Should have the trans apart Monday/Tuesday and will advise. Suspect something...

    '96 Mopar A604 P0300, Won't move

Resurrecting this as I need to take nickb2's advice and beef up my resources with an ELM327 dongle before chasing my next project. However, there is a major problem with cheap, counterfeit Chinese knock-offs that don't actually contain the ELM327 chip and not only may not work, but could do...

    2000 Infiniti G20 AT Issues

Thanks, guys. Yes, I think this one is toast. I am told I could sub an open 'B' suffix tranny if I swap both axles and an axle retaining bracket, from '00-'02 G20 or some select Sentras. The opinion was that even if I found another LSD in a yard, it would likely be bad; those have a viscous LSD...

211K miles. Per the tag under hood it's the RE4F03W. LSD? Maybe hard to find a used one? MT

    2000 Infiniti G20 AT Issues

Please fill out the following to ask a question. MAKE: Infiniti MODEL: G20 YEAR: 2000 MILES: N/A ENGINE: 2.0 DESCRIBE ISSUE....Friend's car...apparently it has slow engagement into reverse, and you have to rev it to like 1500-2000 RPM to get it to grab. He says it sounds noisy when shifting...

    '96 Mopar A604 P0300, Won't move

$50 tranny is awesome. So far doesn't even seem to need pinion factor/quick relearn, even though I replaced the TCM too. Thanks for all the help, MT

    '96 Mopar A604 P0300, Won't move

Well it doesn't matter...this thing is toast. Pretty sure something tore loose the first time it tried to upshift. Hitting the yards on 1/2 off sale, found a great donor. Hey, could you confirm this '90 degree' vs. offset converter bolt hole thing...Dacco and everybody else I see shows '96, '97...
