    ABS light is staying on

Actron has a reader that will read ABS codes for less than $100 CP9449. Occasionally can find one on eBay on the cheap. With these, you don't have to worry about foreign made knockoffs like you do with the Tech II units made in China or wherever. I bought one new and it's paid for itself...

    Chain saw won't start hot

Makes sense. I really like this saw, runs and cuts like a champ otherwise. I'll look into it, thanks much.

    Chain saw won't start hot

I'll check that. But...in theory...it runs fine when hot, just won't restart until it cools down. If the magneto is wonky, wouldn't it stop running or run poorly when hot?

    Solstice GXP Turbo upgrade

Thanks for the links. In either case, I'd need to have someone do a flash upgrade, correct?

    Solstice GXP Turbo upgrade

Just bought a 2007 Solstice GXP and heard about a dealer installed upgrade for the turbo...about $650 or so that's a flash upgrade and different MAP sensor. Is this something that I can install myself and have the local mechanic do a flash upgrade on the software? I'll check around to see if...

Part number confusion for seat occupancy sensor

Interesting... I was just looking at a 2007 Solstice available right down the street. The owner mentioned there was a recall on the passenger seat sensor and he was waiting for the part. Guessing it's the same issue as with my Torrent.

Door electric stuff gradually being lost

What I ended up doing is soldering in a short length of wire for the two wires that were completely separated and using liquid electrical tape on the wires where the insulation was cracked (but the wires were intact). Yeah, less than ideal, but I was under some time pressure from...

    Chain saw won't start hot

I've inherited a Mcculloch Chainsaw and it starts right up cold. Simply will not start hot, so I have either to gas/oil it up while running or wait 30-40 minutes or so for it to cool down...then it starts right up again. Ideas?

Part number confusion for seat occupancy sensor

Checked and there were no codes set.

Part number confusion for seat occupancy sensor

Hmmmm. So it's possible that IF the seatbelt switch input is erratic, that would give the same symptoms as what I'm seeing? I suppose that could be an explanation. Seat belt sensors easy to examine?

Door electric stuff gradually being lost

Yep, just looked at it and there are several broken wires. Should be fixed by the weekend.

Part number confusion for seat occupancy sensor

If the passenger sits still, everything is fine. If the passenger shifts position, the airbag indicator light goes from "on" to "off" and the IP message says "service air bag". Very predictably, after 20-30 seconds, the light goes back to on and the IP message goes away. If there's no...

Part number confusion for seat occupancy sensor

I realize that airbag advice is not allowed on the forum, if this qualifies, please delete. That being said, I'm having some confusion over part numbers for my 2008 Pontiac Torrent. It is the base model with heated seats, but the part number is listed as both 19207141 and 19168441. I'm...

Door electric stuff gradually being lost

Would it be of any use to wrap the entire bundle in electrical tape after the repair? I'm thinking that may limit the flex in the wires at the point of repair. Or is that wishful thinking?

Door electric stuff gradually being lost

I was thinking that an owner's first thought might be: "Don't they test these things?", but I've been puttering around cars long enough to know the answer to that question, LOL. Save costs = Cheap wires/poor design= Issues long after the warranty expires or the division is eliminated by the...

Door electric stuff gradually being lost

Found this pix on the interwebz from a YouTube video. It's a pix of an Equinox, not sure if it's the same year or similar year to my 2008 Torrent. If so, this looks like a reasonably accessible way to do the repair:

Door electric stuff gradually being lost

I've been gradually losing functionality related to the driver's door: first, the interior lights going on and off are intermittent, second, the radio doesn't turn off when I turn off the ignition and open the driver's door. Third, now the driver's door lock in inoperative. All this is...

Whirring sound coming from the front end

Another way to check the wheel bearings is jack up the front end, car in neutral, and feel the spring while someone turns the tire. If the bearing is bad it may vibrate on that side. Not a 100% diagnostic trick, but someone here on the BAT forums recommended it and it worked for me at least 2...
