Hello,
I have a 97 Chev. Z71 4wd that is sometimes hard to shift out of park. When it does this I can press on brake pedal a couple of times & play with the shifter & it will then come out of park. It seems to be happening more often recently.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Wayne

Sometimes parking on an incline can do this, but remember the switch that releases the shifting mechanism is getting older too and you may have some wear in the column too. Try to set your parking brake before you put it into park and release it after you take it out of park, see if this helps. Another thing is start the vehicle step on the brake then count to 3 before you try to move it from park. The fact that it does eventually release means the electronics are working and the linkage is eventually moving. Post back if either technique works or helps, Transman
