I drive a 1999 Jeep Wrangler 4 cylinder with manual transmission. My problem is when I try and shift out of 3rd gear it is almost like the stick is locked in place and wont move. With a little force I can get it out of 3rd. It is only 3rd gear that is having this problem. I had it in the shop in October and the mechanic said my clutch looked good so I need to know if it is the transmission, and what the problem is.

Sounds like a synchro or bushing problem in the tranny.

It is strictly a trans problem, The blocking rings/ syncronizer assy. It is possibly eve a shift fork problem but much less likely. How many miles on this puppy? It is probably overhaul time based on the years and symptoms. Make sure you find a qualified shop that can and does repair standards. Do the research before you go there then interview them as if you were looking for an employee. Post your results, Transman
