Pulled code (P0480) tonight but have not had a chance to check car out, will tomorrow afternoon. Fan is running & coolant temp is okay. Where is best place to start looking... Fan relay?

I searched sticky notes and found one other car had this issue but seemed to have resolved itself for that person.

Thank you!

Can't help but comment, Ford solved their Mercury problems just like GM solved their problems with Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Saturn, and Humvee. They don't make them anymore.

With the advent of OBD II, all vehicles were to use a standard diagnostic socket and codes that no automotive manufacturer complied with. When using a generic scanner, no telling what code you will get.

Looks like my internet connection is crapping out again. Usually have a relay box in these things where the fan relays are located. Can be repaired.

Typo error... Yes it is a 4.6 It's my neighbors car he's 100 years old believe it or not. He bought the car new and it has been junk ever since. I'm trying my best to help him since he lives alone and is on limited income.

Went back to auto parts store and diagnostic unit read bank #1 O2 sensor so I think this is the problem. First guy just gave me the code so thanks for the info it did make a big difference!

Thank you!

No code associated to a 2000 grand marquis with a 4.6l

Recheck code. Not listed for this car. I checked for a 99 and a 2001. They both do not list a P0480 code.

For OBD2 ford P0480, this for low fan control, however, not intended for your year model.

So post back with proper year, or proper code.

Here is a link for a 2006 grand m. http://workshop-manuals.com/mercury/grand_marquis/v8-4.6l_vin_v_flex_fuel/a_l_l__diagnostic_trouble_codes_%28_dtc_%29/codes_by_number/p0400-p04zz/p0480_p0484_%28_p0481_p0482_p0483_0480_0481_0482_0483_0484_%29/system_information/system_diagnosis/p0480/

You say you have a 2000? Sure bout that?

I can't post a schematic that I know will suit your vehicle if 3 year production from 99 to 2001 don't have it.

2002 started using P0480. I will post that diagnostic chart and schematic, but wiring may not be yours. So double check your year and model or double check the code you have if you indeed have a 2000.

Do you have a VDF like in the screen shot I uploaded? Models used hydraulic for fans also in this year model 2002 also.
