And that's all I know. A friend of a friend has a 2004 Ranier that will not shift out of park. I'm going to look at it tomorrow.
Any common things to look for? I've found youtube videos about a shift cable bushing that fails. If that's it, looks like an easy fix. Any chance it could be in the shift console? Any typical part failures happen in there?
Thanks in advance for any good guesses!

Seems like it is always the cable bushing down at the trans. Might need the clear one on the right.

Thanks for the reply! Turned out it was not the bushing or a fuse. The neutral safety switch was the problem. Just replaced that but the car would not start. Hit the starter with a hammer and it started up. Currently trying to wrestle the starter out. A youtube video said to remove some engine mounting bolts and just up the engine 1/2 inch to get enough clearance to remove the starter. Any handy hints on that? Seems like too tight a fit to be possible!

Still fighting that starter? which engine do you have? 5.3 V8? That one is the tough one, need to remove the rear steering gear crossmember. Quite a few bolts hold that crossmember. Still a tight fit with 'member removed.
