Chev Malibu 2004 70K V6. my car is making a steering noises, clunking, sounds like front end will fall out when driving across small bumps, I had dealer replaced rack & pinion=$230.00 (under warranty) about a year ago but the noise came back. Is this a problem with this model car? (out of warranty)

Thanks

The EPS (Electronic Power Steering) system has been particularly troublesome... everything from noise to loss of assist. Another brilliant execution by GM... then they wonder why they're in trouble.

There's a number of GM TSB's which seem to relate to the noise issue:

ouch 06-02-32-007A, which deals with intermediate shaft interference.

ouch 06-02-32-007, which deals with replacing the entire steering gear.

ouch 04-02-32-003, for dealers only in Mexico, which deals with adjusting the steering gear pre-load and replacing the adjuster plug.

If you need these TSB's you can get them here:

But there's also a bunch of others on lost of assist, a recall campaign, it goes on and on and on, which AllDataDIY also lists.
