Please fill out the following to ask a question.

    MAKE:Chevy
    MODEL: Silverado Half Ton
    YEAR
    :2011
    MILES: 26k
    ENGINE
    :5.3l
DESCRIBE ISSUE....My dad shows up and tells me that he has what appears to be an oil leak coming from the motor mount area. I crawled underneath and for the life of me cannot see where the oil is coming from. Is this a common leak and where might the oil be coming from??

Thanks in advance for the help.

first thought - how much oil are we using ? That will determine priority.
could be - oil filter - we all get a little sloppy changing it, poor filter seal, the filter to block adapter, the oil cooler lines if applicable,

    Hi Kev,
Thanks for the response. It is a small leak, but drops a decent spot 2-3" dia after a 10 mile run. The oil is leaking from the tip of the motor mount on the driver's side. I've ruled out the whole filter area and I've been beneath and under the hood for the last hour, looking feverishly for the seepage/leak. He noticed a very small spot (1/2") and it got progressively worse over a few days. The oil seems to be coming from the top of the rubber portion of the mount, but even with a mirror, I cannot find the source.

    Stumped for sure!!

    Thanks again

Just because the mount may be "oil filled" but leaking, I would suggest you "power/brake" the engine in both Drive and Reverse, then check for fresh oil.

    Hi Dan,

Just tried your suggestion and power braked the engine in forward and reverse. No fresh oil. I also removed the heat shield around the exhaust mani and looked for fresh oil with a mirror...no luck. If the mount is fluid filled, I would think that sooner or later the mount should "run out of oil".

    Stumped x2.

    Thanks

By any chance does your dad have his engine oil changed and is that oil filler tube above that motor mount.

Some of those kids that change your oil, just can't seem to hit that hole. If so, this is your dad's problem.
