My 96 Explorer engine light is on for a a few months and I can't get it off, but the engine runs fine. If not for the light I'd not know something was wrong. I had it scanned when my trans was fixed a few weeks ago, and again a few days ago by AutoZone. Each gave me a P0401 and 1405 codes. A year ago I replaced my EGR, vac solenoid, and PDFE sensor, and the EGR tube. The light was off for maybe 1000 miles. Would appreciate your help.

both of these are related to vacuum lines running to both the egr valve and the dpfe sensor. look at both and the vacuum lines and look for cracked or unhooked lines to either.

you say you went to autozone to have it scanned...you can go back to them and get them to scan it again and have them clear the code..then if it comes on again go back to them and get them to read it once more and see if you get the same code...it maybe that the code is reading from memory and never was cleared from the computer..just a thought..david
