fault code 1209 is to do with abs. Is it safe to drive

You could start maybe with make and model of this ABS code.

Then we MAY tell you if it is safe to drive.

Oh, and don't forget year, engine size, etc.

Your code should mostly/always start with a "C"

In generic terms, that means most probably you are driving a korean beast. Hyundai to be more specific.

Normally, this will be a wheel speed sensor of some sorts and the vehicle is perfectly safe to drive.

Ahort lesson. When an ABS light is on, a fail safe activates, which in fact de activates the ABS system. Rendering the car as when our grand mothers and grandfathers drove cars.
