Please fill out the following to ask a question.

    MAKE: GMC
    MODEL: c5500
    YEAR: 2005
    MILES: 230k
    ENGINE
    : 6.6 duramax diesel
DESCRIBE ISSUE....intermittent problem. I'm driving along and when the tranny kicks into 2nd gear, the engine revs like I am pumping the gas. Problem eventually goes away. I wonder if changing the fuel filter would correct this.

If your fuel filter has >10k miles on it, it's time to change it regardless. Have you scanned it for codes, whether the Check Engine light is on or not? Any other warning lights? Any recent repairs or issues?

If the engine rpm "flares" briefly right after a shift, a clutch is slipping more than normal. It can't hurt to change the fuel filter, but that ain't it. Agreed, a thorough scan for codes should be the first step. I assume the trans fluid level is OK and doesn't look/smell like crap, correct???
