I have a 2004 3/4 ton suburban with a bad transfer case. I am looking at one on Ebay. How do I know the gear ratio on the one I have? How do I know on the one I am getting? I want to be sure I get the right part. I am looking at a 2006 also from a 6.0. I believe they are compatible. Can someone double check for me please?

sorry takes forever to get answers on web forums ESPECIALLY when under the gun.

I think you will be ok - the only way I can see to be sure, go to a online GM parts site, enter vin and get OEM part number they select against the item... ALSO I believe the speedometers (TCM/PCM) are all programmable - to ratios ie diff and TC..

Excellent. I have never done one. My biggest concern is that I do not have one front gear ratio and another in the rear. It doesnt work that way, right? Good with engines. I know diddly squat about transmissions and gears

The concern about "front and rear axle have to be the same ratio" would only apply to the axles. The transfer case mostly has to match at all connecting points... trans, shafts, shifters, sensors, mounts.
