Daughter's cruise control is fixed, and she is really happy !!!! (so is Dad)

Thanks for the explanation of the reset in the PCM. I had no idea how the internals work in this equipment. One of the things I hate as a tech is having to deal with a "black box". Unfortunately, this is going to be the wave of the future.

That is an an excellent point. We tried to buy SCR's for a GE DC drive from another source. They wouldn't hold up longer than a month or 2. GE told us they would check the performance of each SCR to be sure they met their specifications. The alternate source was a lot cheaper, but it wasn't...

You made a very good point. it makes sense that the EEPROM chips can "leak off" code. It has never occurred to me that this can happen because most of the industrial electronics I work with automatically refresh the internal memory. Also, the PLC's we have on site back up to a server. The...

Daughter's cruise control is fixed, and she is really happy !!!! (so is Dad)

Guys, good news. I ended up taking the truck to our local Ford dealer for the reflash because I was running out of vacation and had other things I had been tryuing to get done that need to be done. The reflash cured the problem. It wasn't too expensive, just $65.00. Nickb2, I looked into your...

2004 F150 no cruise control and daughter is not happy.

You are looking at some really sophisticated equipment. What I would love to have is a device that I could see inputs, outputs, and the code that acts on those inputs and outputs. I've been running into a lot of problems at work where the PLC's have been either trying to drive an output and the...

2004 F150 no cruise control and daughter is not happy.

Time for an update, gentlemen. There are 2 brake pedal switches on this truck. I found the second switch entirely by accident looking into another problem with the truck. I now know that every external signal that the PCM needs to operate the cruse control is getting there as I can read them...

    Bonded leather

When Pa was still around, he used to like to get old brass and shine it up. He would find harness hardware from when he was a boy on the home place and buff it up. He would then spray it with Aqua-Net, a very cheap hair spray my mom used. Its primary ingredient was lacquer. It held up well...

    Chain saw won't start hot

I second Nick's diagnosis. Run the engine until it heats up and quits. Then, check for spark when you try to start it.

E10 fuel is a pain in the arse !!!!!!

I was reading a while back here in a thread that Nickb2 was wondering how we handle E10 fuel here in the states. For me, it's pretty simple. I absolutely will not run E10 in anything but new vehicles. Modern cars and trucks have a fuel system that is essentially sealed so the fuel can't absorb...

Home theatre amp stuck in stand by

Howdy. It's nice to be back. I haven't had a day off since April 3rd. I'm on tonight, but I guess everyone is leaving us alone so we can rest a bit. What you experienced has been the problem of the century for industrial electrical/instrumentation/control techs. In my line of work, we usually...

2004 F150 no cruise control and daughter is not happy.

My daughter tells me that the truck stalled out on her the other day. I thought I had that fixed with the throttle position sensor. I saw the glitch on the signal with my ForScan program and thought I found the cause. Evidently, it wasn't the right solution. I need to dig into this again soon...

I didn't get a chance to look at the truck. This shutdown here barely started and it's already nuts. I'll keep you posted as soon as I can get another look.

    Possible tranny problem

Not necessarily. You could have a pending code in your PCM. When the PCM detects a fault, sometimes it will store it as a pending fault and not light up the MIL unless the fault remains for a period of time. You can read pending faults if you have the right scanner.

The guy with the ECM hanging from his "warm air intake", now that's a real special kind of stupid.
