    JF011E/CVT2 Question

Well the first tranny I ever fixed, a 41TE, I assembled the input drum after downing most of a fifth of vodka. Apparently I got it right, though I can't remember the actual work too much. LOL - again I just watched a uTube video of a tranny teardown by a guy who's been doing it forever, and of...

    JF011E/CVT2 Question

So the variators look good from what I can tell. The plate on the unit says A26X13 and 0935, and you can see numbers on the primary variator that says 'No 10375, 07-02-20, 06 55'. The Chrysler sticker on the unit is 04872840AE. Anybody have any reference material that might tell what any of that...

    JF011E/CVT2 Question

I'm not repairing a car at this point. Was just looking at the bigger picture, which apparently somebody out here has in view. Maybe the guy is pulling them apart in the yard, and if the variators look good, they buy them and do the pump fix, and sell them. Or maybe it's a shop. Also was...

    JF011E/CVT2 Question

Autozone $2849, AWD $3167, $600 core...the main issue with these trannies is a flow control valve in the pump that wears its bore, causing low pressure, which in turn can damage the variators, belt slips, etc. There's aftermarket solutions for the control valve problem. MT

    JF011E/CVT2 Question

Okay, thank you for the help on this. Someone in my area is pulling all the CVTs out of Sentras and Calibers from the Pick 'N Pull yards before anyone else can get them. Not sure what they're up to. They left this one, prolly because it's AWD. MT

    JF011E/CVT2 Question

Thank you, bp042665. I see that SW Transmission sells complete units. Just to clarify, when you say 'thats where i get mine when they are past the point of me rebuilding them' are you referring to the whole tranny? Not replacement variators? MT

    JF011E/CVT2 Question

All - the JF011E CVT trans is hard to find used where I live, and I may have an opportunity to grab one really cheap but it's in a 2007 AWD Caliber. I also drive a 2007 Sentra with the JF011E, and it's still going strong with 200K miles. Anyway, there's not a lot of info out there. Does anybody...

    New GMC/GM 8 Speed Transmission

Yes, and I don't want to hijack this thread too far off topic, but my belief is that auto trans technology has, in many cases, not kept up with the need of the automakers to continue to produce more technologically advanced vehicles, no matter what. Evidence Ford's mess with the DPS6. It looks...

    New GMC/GM 8 Speed Transmission

This probably won't be helpful but I just saw GM's response to the class action lawsuit on the 8L90 and 8L45, which is what I assume this thread relates to, and am totally sickened by it. One of their arguments is that their warranty only covers defects in manufacturing, NOT in design. Wow...

P1698 No CCD Bus Messages Received, Instr Cluster Not Functioning '98 Chrysler Minivan

Perspective...I remember buying a '96 Caravan with a bad tranny from a kid and his mom. Poor guy was driving over the Bay Bridge for kidney dialysis, and the mom was about to donate one of her kidneys to him. He just really needed that tranny to go out on top of everything else. They even towed...

Glad she's ok. Makes the fact that I am now in OBD monitor hell again seem insignificant, MT

P1698 No CCD Bus Messages Received, Instr Cluster Not Functioning '98 Chrysler Minivan

Yeah, so I guess unless the system looks and decides the VIN in the BCM doesn't match, I should be good. I assume the VIN is stored there? I don't think I've ever seen this clearly documented, more like 'tribal knowledge'. Like 'you will have to program that. You know that, right?' Well, I don't...

P1698 No CCD Bus Messages Received, Instr Cluster Not Functioning '98 Chrysler Minivan

Bingo! Checked a Pick 'N Pull about an hours' drive from here this am, and they had two BCMs with my P/N. Pulled the one out of a base model '98 identical to mine, plugged it in, and all is good. It even runs the tach. I kind of thought it would, because the donor had a tach with red...

P1698 No CCD Bus Messages Received, Instr Cluster Not Functioning '98 Chrysler Minivan

I don't know if my scanner is reading anything but the ECM, but if I go to scan instead of OBD, I see the P1695, no messages from BCM. The P1698 shows under the normal OBD. This is a base model Voyager and I don't think it has any security features needing programming. MT

P1698 No CCD Bus Messages Received, Instr Cluster Not Functioning '98 Chrysler Minivan

The battery is new, plus I charged it for two hours when I brought it home until my charger showed full charge. Re: BCM, I think I may have a chance if I get a used on as long as the P/N matches. When you say J2534 time, do you mean some kind of pass-through device to program it? I have not been...

P1698 No CCD Bus Messages Received, Instr Cluster Not Functioning '98 Chrysler Minivan

To clarify, voltage was around 1 with cluster connected or not, with BCM disconnected. ECU was always plugged in during these tests, so a terminating resistor was in the circuit. D.

Disconnecting ICM didn't change it, plus I tried the other cluster I have. No change. MT

P1698 No CCD Bus Messages Received, Instr Cluster Not Functioning '98 Chrysler Minivan

Did the voltage tests at the DLC per Nickb2's recommend, and got like .45 to .50 at both 3 & 11, then with BCM disconnected, I got like .80 to 1.1. This was with ECU connected. Disconnecting other modules didn't cause the .50. So I don't know why these seem to be like 1/2 of the 2.5V voltage...

P1698 No CCD Bus Messages Received, Instr Cluster Not Functioning '98 Chrysler Minivan

Ok, good continuity on the SCI circuit between TCM and ECU, and no short to ground. Looked for a BCM today at the local Pick 'N Pull yard but the only manual window/door lock vehicle didn't have the same P/N and it had a 4 cyl in it so that might be why. Have to look at other yards next week...
