    Very rusty fuel injectors

If you ran GM or Ford would you want that though? Customers keeping trucks 20 years or even forever instead of buying a new one even 5 years down the line?

    Very rusty fuel injectors

Beer cans are aluminum, no? Now Ford makes truck bodies out of that. The frames are still steel. I read somewhere that high strength steel rusts easy.

    Moth in Engine!

He is getting a stay of execution until the color I want for my valve covers arrives!

    Very rusty fuel injectors

You are very lucky then. Here trucks can actually lose weight and increase their MPG over rust.

    Very rusty fuel injectors

In rustopia here, if there is any flaking and missing metal I usually err on the side of caution. Almost every metal tube was replaced on the truck. Some may be ready for seconds. Cosmetic rust generally does not have texture. Lets just say these have an extra dimension :)

    Very rusty fuel injectors

I think FI is a major improvement over carbs. These injectors served me well for 170K miles. No carb would last that long without any major work. I could have probably kept them, but the rust bothered me. A matched set of injectors is $50. My briggs and stratton opposed needed a carb...

    Very rusty fuel injectors

I just want you to know though I had an injector with a major leak at tip (the lower o-ring area). It had a plastic body and a metal tip. That was the Ford skinny injector though. My explorer ones are fat. Maybe it was a freak thing but it motivated me to consider new ones. If I didn't give a...

    Fuel line help

I have that connector on the 96 Explorer fuel tank. Two of them. In 97, they changed to hoses and clamps. Cost savings but maybe warranty time too. It is a horrible design. Took an hour to get each off, I was trying to save the aluminum connector. Just lots of penetrating oil and cursing. The...

    Very rusty fuel injectors

Yeah, I guess I answered it. Probably best to replace all, my question was if I should keep the rusties. I was thinking of just getting one.

    Moth in Engine!

Yeah, I saw a cash for clunker vid once on this engine, they poured that crap in and it ran 10 minutes. 2 minutes were with a hole in the block from a rod  I'm sure it laughs at the moth. Inside though, this engine looks like it has 100 miles on it. It was cared for, but it looks like it...

    Very rusty fuel injectors

I wanted to replace a gasket and the fuel injectors had to come out. Some are extremely rusty on the body. I'm doing this job because a valve cover flange rusted out. I may have to replace one injector because it got damaged removing. It was one with the intake. Now, I'm thinking of replacing...

    Moth in Engine!

Working on an OHV engine (changing lower intake manifold) and a moth went right for the camshaft! I had a light shining and he flew right passed it. Intake ports stuffed with towels, I was going to cover the rest when I was done scraping. I see now how important it is to expose a minimum of the...

Lexus GS350 AWD - small diff leak

I have a small axle seal leak on the front diff. Problem with this car is they tried to put a toyota truck drivetrain in a sedan. The passenger half shaft is like 4' long and goes thru a bearing which is seems to be part of the engine block. Do you know if the subframe has to be dropped to...

06 4.6 3v Explorer -*P0420* *corrected* and possible exhaust leak

Everything checked out otherwise - the manifolds really look bad, have very tiny leaks and are getting replaced with ford parts. Dealer said they will take care of it with a good deal on parts. New cats too. They said that is one job you don't want to diy without a shop. Then he showed me some...

06 4.6 3v Explorer -*P0420* *corrected* and possible exhaust leak

Explorerforum and the internet has tons of cases with that engine needing exhaust manifolds. But usually it sounds like a motorcycle at startup, this don't. The manifolds look very ratty. It may be just starting.

06 4.6 3v Explorer -*P0420* *corrected* and possible exhaust leak

P0420 - Stupid me for putting in an EGR CODE This 3v does not have EGR, it is a baby 5.4 with the cam phasers. Dealer told me he hates selling 5.4s because they are either trashed or close to it and he gets nasty comebacks and bad reviews. His mustang has the exact engine and trans like the...

06 4.6 3v Explorer -*P0420* *corrected* and possible exhaust leak

Looking to buy this and working with a dealer. Except for this it runs perfect. I believe there is a new(er) cat - it has those California Carb numbers on the shield (along with a bunch of other new parts, 02 sensors, maybe the last owner gave up). No idea how old it is. The explorer has a...

    Gear pattern

Ford 8.8s go into Jeeps and other vehicles. They can be reconditioned to new even if they are 20 years old. The only improvement is welding the tubes if you are doing anything extreme. I'm still amazed at the snow traction. The only thing 4x4 helps a bit with is very steep mountains with snow...

    Gear pattern

I think Ford also did a great job with those gears. When they cleaned up they looked like they came out of a box. I will definitely sell them when the time comes. They are 4.10s. They give that underpowered but reliable 4.0 V6 some nice torque off the line.
