Hi

I just did my brakes the other day and was wondering why the abs is rubbing on my new hub. I thought Oriley's said it was a universal hub. I'm not sure if it has ABS or not though.

Clarify:

Are you saying the ABS sensor is rubbing on the (ABS) reluctor/tone ring on the hub? What else did you do besides new brake pads? A new wheel hub is usually not needed to renew brakes. Posting pictures may help.

Do you have the old parts, to compare dimensionally to new? If they are different then, obviously, take the new back to ORLY for a correct part.

Yes the the ABS sensor is rubbing on the (ABS) reluctor/tone ring. After I did the job and when I drove home I could hear it rubbing and scraping. When I got home and crawled under and looked at it I found metal shavings all through out the rim. I could see the grind marks in a circle all the way around the reluctor ring on driver side and passenger side. I stopped at Advanced auto parts and they mentioned shims. Then I went across the street to Orileys where I bought this stuff. And they just reconfirmed the same parts to my truck.. I took pictures of the old one. Not sure which was the drivers side and which was the passenger side. But I could see that the old one. One of the old ones rubbed also.
Yes I put on new Hubs, Bearings and pads.

Ah, the pictures do help. Does the sensor screw into the steering "knuckle"? If so, then those shims may just be glorified thin (and probably narrow) washers to space the sensor out a bit. Can you easily check for axial run-out of that reluctor ring? With the sensor out, you could probably do that using a screw (or the sensor itself) as a "depth gauge".

I called the local auto shop yesterday where I just had all new brake lines put on this ranger for about 900. He told me to measure the old ones and call Orileys and see which size were of the ones they sold me. The old ones were 11.25" and the new ones were 11.25". Because apparently there are 2 sizes. 11.25" and 10.25".
So since the rotors seemed to be the right size and part only the ABS is rubbing I decided to take her for a drive. Slammed on the brakes good at 15 mph and again at 25 and 35. There's no abs light on. Its seems like the abs has grinded enough material off the ring that its not really grinding much at all. But with my loud exhaust you can't hardly hear that anyways. I did threaten to Oriley's to put my old parts back on and bring there parts back but decided not to bother. I'm out of money and can hardly roll around under this truck for 6 or 7 hours anyway. Thanks Bat for you help
