Air flow out of the center vents all the time, a little from the floor, but non from the defrost. I’m moving manually the cam which the actuator moves on the left side by the accelerator pedal, but no change in air flow. I can feel a door going to it’s limits on travel. Is there something internally that breaks? You seen this before?

Hi everyone
I did a little investigation on the pickup heater mode controls. First ran my camera down in the defrost duct. I could see a door opening and closing. So next I got the Dremel up to grind off the plastic rivets that hold the mount for the mode actuator. Removed that and the plastic cam. What I found was one of the arms that supposed to be moved by the cam was missing, broke off. Doing a little fashioning, I made a new arm. And now it works again. The original was plastic and the way it was made it only attached to the shaft with about 1/2 contact. No wonder it broke after while?! Took some time, but better than removing the dash and buying a new plenum

Good job! And, thanks for passing on the solution. Even though we were not able to help you, this thread may be of benefit in the future. Can you post a picture of the broken part the metal one is replacing?

The broken one was gone. Probably fell down on the floor mat and got kicked out. So I didn’t have much to go by. I’ll send a picture of the one that runs the defrost air flow. The one I fixed controls the vents and floor and in the right position, the defrost

Thanks. That, along with the other pix, clarified for me what you did.

That's the mode door/actuator. When you switch between the defrost, floor and vent MODES you are adjusting the mode door. You have a blend door that blends the proper amount of hot and cold air for the temperature you desire.
