However, after perusing identifix, I forgot to say, with D light flashing, this may be a APP sensor going south, this need live dat to check, as we need to see expected vs shown.

Normally, d light flashing is a ecm to tcm handshake, basically telling ecm to keep rich or die. again, ford algo shytte.

If the d is flashing, maybe forscan tool is limited.

,replaced-egr/maf/map/air filter, cleaned throttle body. Also have blinking “D” light. Get hesitation/herky jerky at times
This is what I am focusing on. HIS words.

egr, vac leak suspect. maf, vac leak suspect. there is no map on this job, the MAF and IAT do that and he says he swapped that also. He also says he cleaened the throttle body. Essentially7, he is chasing his own tail.

he threw a bunch of parts at this engine, and I swear, on credit, this is going to end up a vac leak all along.

thx for catching me on the lean code, and also for checking if gdi or not, but safe to say, with my experience, this is hugely looking at a vac leak

Hello
Name is manny - so we can communicate easier. I have not been much into cars until I started having this issue back in october. I have read up etc. - these modern cars with the untold number of sensors/modules etc are interesting but a pain to diagnose it seems. A little history:
Back in Oct I started experiencing hesitation. Went to my regular mech - Rich code showed up - they did tranny flush/clean TB/repl plugs.
things progressed to limp mode at random times with some stalling. They tried aftermarket maf - NG! I then went to dealer - they tried OEM maf - same difference! I tried a different mechanic - tried aftermarket maf - most codes went away! except for rich condition and blinking "D" - which I am told is a transmission issue (from my reading maybe a shift solenoid??). So I am looking to learn enough from you all to go to yet anothr mech who is a "tranny" shop with 30+ yrs experience. He happens to be closed this week but I will see him right after. I am able to see live data in forscan but would need guidance as to which PID's etc
Thank you all - I really appreciate it

By the way, things I suspect (from looking around videos/docs etc) are
-vacuum leak
-shift solenoid
-blocked/failing converter

I am sorry I keep recalling details of the history with this issue. My local mech did use some sort of Mobil1 trans fluid - I keep reading that only the mazda m5 should be used. I have 4 qts of it which i bought from the dealer - could this be causing the flashing "D"?

Lets regr0oup here,

if trans light flashing, problem is NOT the o2 sensor. I point care if you like me or not, billr will confirm, I casually dont BS.

If D light is flashin, trans pcm slash ecm is sending a message, and you are not equipped to see this, or you are not aware

About the tranny flush - I don't remember why it was done at the start of the problems. I just wanted to include as the history of what has been done so far. When the problem was first addressed, i believe the random stalling was the main thing - that ended once the throttle body was cleaned by removing it. After that, I was getting limp mode but no more stalling. the limp mode issue was resolved by the 3rd attempt at a good maf. Now what is still left is the original rich condition and the flashing "D" (which brings on the hesitation/herky jerky behavior at what seems like random times - to me). So far in the last 2 occurrences of the CEL I do not see any other codes except the rich code P0172. is there another way to see messages sent by ECM? - all I have is forscan
Thank you
