I noticed yesterday that my wife's car vibrates while in reverse. What are the typical symptoms of a bad motor mount(s)? Would it vibrate in reverse and not in forward?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, bad mounts is a likely possibility, assuming this has a FWD transaxle. In R, the whole engine/trans assembly torques in the opposite direction when in R, so load on mounts is significantly different than when in a forward gear.

Open the hood and watch the engine/trans as someone shifts between gears. WITH THEIR FOOT ON THE BRAKE. You'll see it rock if a mount is bad.

I once encountered this with a camry with a v6. Rear motor mount was shot. Caused same symptoms as you describe.

I second what GRC wrote, sometimes, when I dont have an apprentice on hand. I will rock the car in gear or park, it is easy to see which one is bad. But the lower one at rear transaxle is hard to see, but if you rock it hard enough, you will see it dive down towards rear.

If your not sure, grab another car close that has same v6 FWD setup, and rock it, if its tight, you will notice the difference.

I found this link, for those interested, I found it was very well written.

#3 is your concern I think. Winks.

Oh, forgot to ask, is the a sh awd? Cuz if so, there may be other issue, plz confirm if this is a base tlx or the high end sh model. Btw, sweet ride. Happy you own one. I am a toy fan, but for sure was looking at those acura 300 hp engine, but price tag up here was 35 grands for this ride, and most where real beat up. Happy you got one, they drive real nice.

Base TLX with the 4 cylinder. Been a good car until lately. They had to replace the VCT and then the crank shaft seal was leaking....now it is oil pan gasket and a bad motor mount. Car has 96k miles. Not sure if the next one will be another Acura. Good thing for the extended warranty.

thx for posting back. Happy you got it fixed. I am so sorry your having so many problems. However, I must assure you, these are all common problems in a car about to hit 200k klics.

I agree, good thing you have a warranty still on it.

Again, thx for posting back.

If your mom is still alive, dont forget tomorrow. winks.
