Clarify for me: Is it hopelessly expensive to fix this, or only hopeless to trouble-shoot it without a proper (and expensive itself) scanner?

These systems usually go over 3grand to replace and fix, just to start over again after another few hundred thou klics.

They are a pain in the arse so to speak, so most of the guys I know that ACTUALLY need these types of truck, go for a bypassed kit as linked to above, to avoid down time and get better HP.

The actual trouble shooting is pretty straight forward, replace EVERYTHING.

Doing a delete will give a more aggressive truck, so neighbours be ware. But in the long run, from limited stuff I know, the guys like the trucks more, but yeah, they get louder, but nothing a weld on muffler wont fix.

The filters clog up all the time, guys get reduced power etc, not a fun situation when you are towing a load, and need to get paid etc.

so when the dpfe (uree) systems goes out, sometimes the guys cant even start the truck cuz they went way passed the life expectancy of the system, and now you have a 100 000$ truck as a paperweight.

However, if OP is in a state or province that actually checks emissions, could be a problem. If it is only a farm truck, or mine truck, who gives a hoot bout that. But if in nazi calif ;) you might want to spend for the stock kit. Just sayin.

If I did not clarify, tell me, and I will post some links to videos, on how these systems work, and how horrible they actually are in the real world.
Looks good on paper, but up here in the north, nightmare.

Speaking of control nazi,

In the USA you can buy a gun at the local beer store next to the milk and nobody ask questions, but cant modify EPA standards. But you can modify that gun and kill lots of ppl, but gosh dang, if you modify your truck to be more productive, criminal.

In my canadian mind, this does not make sense. On one hand you have the NRA, and the EPA.

Lobby BS in my mind.

Contrary to what most usa ppl think about us cannucks, we are tough and dont need a gun to walk the street.

So, now that I have showed my colors, quebec song time and I will get greif later for not bowing down to NRA beleifs, or EPA beleifs.

This world has already lost the battle. Planet earth will shake us off like a bad case of fleas. George Carlin.

Do I understand correctly that the "dpfe" system is mostly an (expensive) "consumable", like spark-plugs? The P20EE is never from any single part that has failed and can be replaced economically?

Boy oh boy do I hear you.

Up here, no problem, smog delete all day.

querbec redneck.
Thanks for your thoughts, question- My truck is noty using as much DEF fluid as is has in the past, If i removed the DEF injector from the area where it is attached to the exhaust system ( obviously I lack any mechanical knowledge) and DO NOT disconnect the electrical and DEF fluid connections, and then started the vehicle, in theory would DEF fluid shoot out of the injector and would it be more noticeable if the RPM's were increased?
Just want to make sure DEF is working , I am 100 percent sutre the DEF guage is good, used to add DEF about every 7500 miles, thats about when the add DEF light would come on, I have driven about 15k mile without adding DEF -
