Someone cross-threaded a wheel stud on the front driver's side. This is my niece's car, so I'm trying to help her out.

I thought it would be a simple fix, but there's no clearance in any position, to hammer the old stud out, much less pull a new one through. I can remove the hub and do it, but I've seen a few youtube video comments that if you remove the hub, and knock out the stud, it will cause damage to the hub bearings. ANY TRUTH TO THIS?

Thanks, BAT

The terms "hammer" and "knock out" are rather unspecific; could mean a skillful technique, or could mean gorilla rage. Bearings could be damaged by hammering, or pressing, if the job is done improperly, but damage can be prevented if the job is done properly. I always prefer pressing, but hammering can work
