2019 F350 crew cab, 6.2, automatic, auto hubs, 136,000km, was told driver got stuck because of no 4x4, when i got to the truck it wont shift back to 2 wd, switch is showing that it is switching thru 2, 4hi and 4lo, can hear motor moving, removed motor and checked movement-is good-, tried another known good shift motor-same issue-tried manually shifting t-case, still wont go to 2wd. Am I missing something or do I need a transfer case? Thanx

Wow, kind of confusing. The driver said could not get 4WD, but you find you get only 4WD?

When you tried manually shifting it, did the mechanism refuse to move, or did it move OK but have no effect on the gear connections?

Are you jacking up wheels to verify when it is in 2, 4H, or 4L; or just going by how it "feels" as you drive it?

When I manually shifted the mechanism did move to where it was supposed to go but still no 2wd, have been testing with truck on a hoist 4 wheels in the air.

Are you saying it is impossible to stop both front wheels from turning, when in 2WD? I would expect them to turn, when raised in the air, but it should be fairly easy to stop them simultaneously.

Both front wheels are driven at all times by the front driveshaft, cannot stop them without hitting the brakes.

I have determined that something let go inside the t-case, will tear it apart to see what is going on. Thanks for the input.

Ok, just checked my database, and I confirm, this is a classic vac leak at open wheel end hubs or whatever godforsaken english name ford gave to this. Very classic. Check vac leak at open wheel end hubs. Easy to check,.

This is just me venting, but I would sure like to meet the ford engineer that invented this nonsense system. Up here in northern canada, we see this ALL THE F ING TIME. Plow through a snow bank, catch a bit of ice chunks, bye goes the vac line, stuck in 2wheel drive,

Again, sure would like to meet the guy.

Anyway, check this video out, length wise yeah, but valuable info.
