my car hesitates intermittently only when hot, it shows a number 5 misfire, replaced plugs, wires, even borrowed a buddies distributor, still does it. Also, the tach jumps randomly, only when hot and only occasionally. It shows P0725 code, autozone says this is a tranny issue. The code reader says engine speed sensor circuit malfunction, autozone shows no part for this car by that name, only vehicle speed sensor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

PO725 is an engine speed input circuit malfunction...Check the coil wire and the connector...it could even be a faulty coil...Jim

Your tach signal comes from the ignition coil, this signal is also fed to the computer, hense a code.

Hey there! Replaced the coil and problem solved. Curious though, why it showed #5 misfire? But I'm not complaining. Thanks for the help!

Glad you got it fixed...thanks for posting back and letting us know....maybe the #5 plug wire was close to the coil wire or it was laying against the block and grounding it....Jim
