99 Dodge Caravan P0500 & p1698

Have a friends 99 caravan 3. 3 auto. Starter went out the other day and jiggled some wire and now start fine. But started bucking on the way home, Have codes of p0500 and p1698, replace the output sensor but tranny still doesn't shift. trying to locate input sensor but no luck any help appreciated :mad:

You are throwing parts at something which is always a doomed practice.

P1698 is a CCD (Chrysler Collision Detection) System Bus system fault which means the computers are not talking. Also the P0500 is a "no speedo signal" received, most likely a fault of the above. No speed signal means no shift on the trans. You DO NOT have a P0700 or any related powertrain codes, thus you probably just spent $20 on an output sensor that did not need fixing.

Check all grounds...PULL the terminals off the battery and clean them...do not be fooled by appearances. Also check that big ground that feeds the starter. If it is dirty or high resistance, you will have a bunch of gremlins.

Thanks for the help guys. Turns out it was a bad ground causing the p1698 code ::) Which caused the p0500 code. Sometimes I guess u still have to check the obvious before u just slam on parts. Thanks again fixed
