How do you know it's the fuel pump?

Let's regroup here, describe the problem symptoms in more detail.

My understanding is that the engine dies occasionally, both while driving and while the car is stopped with the engine idling, but will crank and restart immediately. Is that correct?

Does it do this every time the car is used now, or only sometimes?

Does the engine quit suddenly, or run roughly for a short period as it dies? (This would probably be most noticeable at idle)

Is there any indication of over-all electrical system failure, like lights/radio/heater blower going off, as the engine dies?

Any trouble-codes set? Yes, get it scanned even if the "check engine" light is not lit.

Has the problem happened when the engine is cold? Has it happened when it is fully warmed up?

Is this a new problem for you, or did you acquire he car in this condition?

Has any work been done on the car recently? Has it been in an accident or some other "event"?
