When I change the inner tie rods on my 1999 Ranger, 2WD, rack and pinion steering should I use loctite on the threads of the new inner tie rods? If so should I use the Red, hard setting, or the softer Blue type? Thanks  ???

From what I can see, just clean threads. If you have to take them back off, having to wrench on them too hard can damage the rack.

Not all that long ago, some Ford vehicles used roll pins and rivets on the inner rods that if you forget to remove would end up destroying the threads on the steering rack. The service parts were revised with the roll pins and rivets were omitted, and the factory specifically mentioned using Loctite on the threads. I still use Loctite to this day, since without roll pins or rivets, there's nothing else to hold them, and this is the steering we're talking about.
