Did it run rough before you put new wires on it?....Which engine do you have?...Sounds like it could be a vacuum leak.........could be the EGR valve leaking..not closing all the way.......Jim

Check to make sure the wires are on in the right order...pull one wire off at a time and see if there is a difference in the idle..if you find a bad wire there will be no change in the idle when you pull that wire off.....Jim

Check your distributor shaft and make sure the reluctor wheel does not move on it. Check for rust on it that could be moving changing your timing

How are you trying to change the timing?...it is not adjustable....Here is what Alldata says........Notes

There is no "Set Timing Connector".
Timing is not adjustable.

NOTE : The Distributor is located in a fixed, non-adjustable position. No attempt should be made to adjust the engine base timing by rotating the distributor. Attempting to do so may result in engine cross-fire and mis-fire conditions.
